Pumpkin Oat Dog Treats

PumpkinOatDogTreats

My love of baking for family and friends doesn't exclude my favorite furry friends. I make dog treats on a regular basis. These treats are incredibly easy and quick to make.

Pay attention to the ingredients you use. Dogs (and humans) should not eat foods that are loaded with preservatives and artificial ingredients. This recipe is all-natural and gluten-free. Read the labels of the products used.
I hope your furry family members love these treats as much as ours do!

PUMPKIN OAT DOG TREATS

15 ounces pumpkin purée
1 egg
1 teaspoon baking soda
4 cups rolled oats

Preheat oven to 350°F.
Use a hand mixer or stand mixer to beat together the pumpkin purée and egg.

Using medium speed, thoroughly incorporate the baking soda and rolled oats with the pumpkin and egg. Beat for a few minutes so the oats can absorb the pumpkin and egg. The mixture should resemble a slightly sticky cookie dough.

Scoop the mixture onto parchment lined baking sheets with a cookie scoop or press evenly into a parchment lined 9”x13” pan. Bake for 12 minutes. The bake time is the same for both methods.

For 9”x13” method: cool the treats completely. Lift the parchment to remove the treats from the pan. Cut into desired shape and size.

Store treats in an airtight container. They will stay fresher longer if kept in the refrigerator and can also be frozen.

CHANGE IT UP

Add 2 tablespoons all natural peanut butter that is salt-free and sugar-free.
Instead of pumpkin, substitute an equal quantity of puréed banana, sweet potato or carrot.

How to make homemade pumpkin purée

Cut a small pie pumpkin in half. Scoop out the seed and place the pumpkin cut side down on a lined baking sheet. Pierce the skin with a knife in a few places. Roast at 375°F for about 30 minutes or until the pumpkin is very soft.
Allow the pumpkin to cool completely. Scoop out the flesh and purée in a blender or food processor. Store pumpkin in the refrigerator up to 5 days or freeze up to 3 months.
